There is a quality to the light in Jerusalem that is unlike anywhere else. In the late afternoon, when the sun is low and the shadows are long, Jerusalem looks like it was painted rather than built.

The neighbourhoods of Rehavia and Talbieh are among the most beautiful residential areas in the world. Wide, tree-lined streets. Grand stone villas from the 1930s. Gardens that have been tended for generations. The German Colony, with its restored Templar houses and excellent restaurants, has the feeling of a village that happens to be in the middle of a great city.

The Food
Jerusalem's food scene has transformed in the last decade. The Mahane Yehuda market — the shuk — is one of the great food markets of the world. By night it becomes a bar district. The restaurants in the German Colony are excellent.
The Community
Jerusalem has a large and welcoming international community — diplomats, academics, diaspora buyers who have made the city their second home. The community is warm, educated, and deeply connected to the city.
